Today, we’d like to share good news regarding our plans to launch L2TP/IPSec support. Some of our existing members asked about diversity and we thought it’s right thing to do.
PPTP protocol has recommended itself quite well as working horse, but it lacks robustness and security. Depending on connection quality PPTP protocol can bring sudden disconnects, idle timeouts and not 100% security. Also it is easy to block PPTP due to GRE channel for data. So we decided to improve the situation and deployed L2TP/IPSec VPN server for testing and evaluation purposes.
Till now L2TP/IPSec protocol is showing quite impressive results, it is no much slower then PPTP and it is going to compensate mentioned issues with security and robustness. It should support Dead Peer Detection and fast wake up for mobile devices.
Now we are playing with different server parameters in order to make sure it is supported by majority of OS’es and devices, then we suppose to open it for Beta Testing. And finally it will become available and launched publicly through the Automatic Setup, the same way as PPTP.
Let’s see how it’s going, stay tuned for more updates.
